Assistant Finance Manager

This job involves working on and assisting in the co-ordination of the day-to-day activities of the finance team across all offshore jurisdictions and to provide an efficient service to the wider offshore Firm.  You will contribute to a culture which fosters engaged and positive people by ensuring the team works in an effective and well-motivated manner, maintaining a good level of team spirit and staff morale.

You will display excellent communication with directors, team members, other colleagues and professionals at all times.

In partnership with the Finance Manager, People and Culture and Learning and Development, you will competently assist in managing junior staff performance through the performance and development process, set clear aims and objectives, coach and monitor their progress on a regular basis to ensure that junior team members develop to the required standard set out in the competency framework and financial and chargeable time budgets are adhered to.

Job responsibilities

• Assist with the co-ordination and preparation of monthly and quarterly reporting packs for each offshore jurisdictions.
• Assist with the co-ordination and preparation of the Firm’s annual budget across the offshore jurisdictions.
• Co-ordinate the preparation of annual financial statements and liaise with the Auditor across the offshore jurisdictions. 
• Ensure that all office and Finance team procedures are adhered to.
• Prioritise, schedule work and allocate responsibilities and tasks to junior resources, as appropriate.
• Assist the Finance Manager to supervise the day-to-day finance functions of the Firm, including timesheet submissions, payments, bookkeeping, ad-hoc financial information requests, etc…, across multiple offshore jurisdictions.
• Identify and implement work review processes and procedures where deficiencies have been identified. 
• Assist with recommendations for the enhancement and development of the IT software (finance related), to improve the quality and efficiency of financial information provided to the Directors. 
• Assist the Finance Manager to plan resources, schedule work, monitor progress against schedules, anticipating and avoiding potential incidents.
• Ensure that your technical knowledge is kept up to date and attend any relevant courses.
• To provide practical on the job training to junior members of the team.
• To assist in managing staff performance in alignment with the PAD process, set clear aims and objectives.
• Coach and monitor progress of junior staff on a regular basis providing the team members with constructive feedback that supports individuals’ development needs and ensure that team members develop to the required standard set out in the competency framework.
• To assist the Finance Manager in confronting underperformance by providing effective constructive feedback on team members.
• To assist the Finance Manager in holding regular team meetings.
• Encourage others to identify and evaluate alternative ways of developing new solutions to problems.
• To promote a culture that encourages honesty, open discussion and information sharing at all levels.
• Maintain confidentiality of client information and any other information of a managerial nature.
• Assist in any other relevant duties as requested by the Finance Manager and the directors.

Skills and requirements

• Knowledge and experience in a mid-level finance role.
• ACA/ACCA qualification or equivalent or relevant number of years’ experience in a mid-level finance role.
• A finance professional with a proven track record of delivering service excellence to high quality standards.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to develop effective relationships at all levels.
• Effective organisational and planning skills.
• Effective performance management skills, including coaching, mentoring and giving and receiving feedback.

Audit Professional

• Hands on, client facing role that will include a mix of accounts preparation, tax and audit as well as business advisory opportunities
• Audit experience and a willingness to learn is essential. No tax experience required. On the job training will be provided
• Responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing accounts for local clients across a range of industries (trading entities, financial services, investment companies to name a few)
• Preparing income tax computations and returns for companies and individuals
• Delivery of audits of local trading and regulated entities
• Providing ongoing support and advisory services to clients
• Maintaining and managing client relationships
• Some supervision and training of staff, including reviewing the work of others where appropriate
• Ensuring that team deadlines are met
• Key skills include ability to work effectively as part of a team and also independently
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Good commercial understanding and desire to deliver for clients

Tax Assistant Manager

You’ll be working in our busy Tax Department within a team of sixteen staff up to Tax Director. The role requires a relevant accounting or tax professional qualification and good knowledge of either Guernsey or UK taxation, ideally both. You’ll have at least 5 years-experience of working in tax. ​

This role will be responsible for a portfolio of clients, as well as being involved in special assignments. You’ll participate in the business development of existing clients as well as developing a specialist field of technical and/or sector knowledge and expertise.​

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS​

• Researching and interpreting changes in relevant tax legislation in both Guernsey and the UK​
• Meeting with clients and collating information ​
• Preparing and submitting client tax returns including dealing with matters relating to economic substance ​
• Liaising and negotiating with the Guernsey Revenue Service and HM Revenue & Customs on behalf of clients ​
• Preparing detailed computations to calculate tax liabilities and advising clients on appropriate tax strategies ​
• Undertaking research for, and drafting, miscellaneous advice to clients, particularly on cross-border matters​
• Willingness to be involved with networking and other business development opportunities​
• Assisting with the financial management of portfolio of clients​
• Willingness to be open and take on tasks and challenges​

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS​

• Minimum of at least CAT/AAT Qualified or overseas equivalent​
• Good Guernsey Tax Knowledge or a willingness to learn ​

About you

• Relevant experience as an Audit Manager (minimum three years post-qualification, and at least one year experience in an Audit Manager role), preferably from a Big 4 or medium-tier firm;
• Financial services experience (required for this role);
• Professional accounting qualification;
• Strong grasp of business and technical issues and industry trends;
• Ability to communicate clearly at all levels with a proven track record of establishing and maintaining strong relationships;
• Excellent organisational and management skills;
