Team Overview

Work is delivered across the whole spectrum of building surveying within a commercial setting, including Dilapidations, Technical Due Diligence, Defect Diagnosis, Project Management, and Contract Administration; most commonly within office buildings. We work with both landlord and tenants, and closely with the Savills property management teams in each Channel Islands office.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will need to be self-sufficient, although we do receive, and are able to call upon the support of the wider Savills UK Ltd, Southern Area Building & Project Consultancy team. Savills are able to provide formal and informal training to help you to develop further.

The role will be based in either the Guernsey or Jersey offices, but it will also require time out of the office at client meetings, undertaking inspections and on site as required. The Channel Island Building Surveyor teams support each other, and therefore travel and work within each island will be required at times. Building and maintaining relationships with the wider Savills UK Ltd BPC teams is also important and therefore some off island travel will be required.

• Undertaking the role of a Building Surveyor to provide advice and reports on commercial premises, along with overseeing the delivery of fit out and refurbishment projects at a strategic level, to manage the professional team ensuring the client’s brief is delivered and that time, quality and cost parameters are met. Within this remit to;
• Be a brand ambassador for Savills, representing the company, BPC, and the Channel Island teams; and representing our values.
• Be focused on the client and ensure exceptional levels of client service.
• Support colleagues in the delivery of building surveying and project management services and step in to support them during any periods of absence.
• Attend industry events and activities as a representative of the company, BPC and the Channel Island teams, to build profile and personal network.
• Develop strong relationships with colleagues and clients to seek further opportunities and instructions.
• Work on own initiative and autonomy whilst maintaining communication with the wider team and senior Directors.
• Act with integrity and honesty.
• Give input to team meetings and take on responsibility for delivery of actions and initiatives to support team and business plan goals.
• Support colleagues across the Savills Group and seek to secure combined business development opportunities.

Technical role and responsibilities

• Preparation of fee proposals and pitching to existing and new clients.
• Support and advise clients across the spectrum of Building surveying services, to include Technical Due Diligence, Dilapidations, strategic planning of projects (including providing advice on the overall approach, team, procurement routes, design management, project opportunities, key risks and mitigation).

• To prepare and deliver professional reports and presentation of findings; and documentation required for the delivery of the projects.
• Programme creation and management.
• Contract administration (JCT suite of contracts).
• Appointment of, and collaboration with, the professional teams on behalf of the client, to deliver complete information to the client for their consideration.

• Has attained or is looking to attain MRICS qualification.

• Track record working in the Channel Islands delivering property advice and successful projects to clients.
• Possesses vision and is able to develop complex strategies and solutions.
• Ability to support colleagues whilst working across multiple instructions.
• Focused with good attention to detail.
• Organised and timely.
