JOB SUMMARY

 

This is a dynamic role within the People & Culture (P&C) team, supporting the delivery of employee lifecycle processes, projects aligned with the Oak Group People Strategy, and day-to-day operational excellence. The role includes responsibility for ensuring data integrity, supporting line managers on employee matters, and contributing to projects across jurisdictions. The Assistant Manager is expected to work with some autonomy while supporting and deputising for senior team members as appropriate.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

 

Employee Lifecycle & Operational Delivery

  • Coordinate and administer employee lifecycle processes including recruitment, onboarding, probation, annual performance reviews, and offboarding.
  • Prepare employment correspondence such as contracts, amendments, and probation confirmations.
  • Support the delivery of the annual performance and pay review process across jurisdictions.
  • Maintain P&C systems with accurate and up-to-date employee data; ensure compliance with data protection and regulatory obligations.
  • Perform background screening and vetting for new hires.

 

 

 

 

 

Policy, Compliance & Systems

  • Contribute to the creation, update, and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements and Group standards.
  • Assist with obtaining regulatory approvals and work permits (Mauritius jurisdiction).
  • Liaise with internal and external parties to ensure compliance with employment law and regulatory obligations.

 

Engagement and Wellbeing

  • Support engagement and wellbeing initiatives within the business

 

Employee Relations & Advisory

  • Act as a first point of contact for employee and line manager queries on policies, procedures, and employee relations matters.
  • Support, and when appropriate lead, employee relations meetings including disciplinary, grievance, and performance management processes.
  • Liaise with external legal advisors where required for employment-related matters.

Project Support

  • Support and deliver key People & Culture projects
  • Conduct research and provide data and insights to support project planning and reporting.
  • Prepare periodic reports for management and Boards.

 

Training & Development

  • Support the development of a management development programme for key line management skills
  • Coordinate administrative tasks related to training and development
  • Liaise with external training providers as needed.

 

Collaboration & Culture

  • Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to enhance team effectiveness and service delivery.
  • Support the creation of a positive work culture in line with Oak’s values and people vision.

General

  • Attend and contribute to P&C meetings, taking accurate minutes where required.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required to support the team and function.
  • Adhere to Oak Group values in all aspects of your role.

KEY COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

 

  • A relevant qualification in Human Resource Management from a recognised institution OR a minimum of 5 years HR related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment laws and regulations in at least 1 of the jurisdictions we operate in
  • A high degree of professionalism and discretion and must know how to represent both Oak policies and the needs of its employees.
  • A firm understanding of the requirement for confidentiality and adherence at all times.
  • Ability to assist with problem solving.

  • Established experience of all Microsoft applications.
